From Apprentice to Expert – 28 Years in the Carpet Trade
Back where it all began – Balham, South London.

Today was a special one.

I found myself back in Balham, South London — the place where it all started for me 28 years ago, when I began my apprenticeship in the flooring trade. The business was called RG Flooring back then, and it’s now known as Balham Flooring Studio.

Walking through the doors brought it all back. The smells, the tools, the sound of the guys working. And then I saw Adam — someone I knew from way back when, now running the show.

We had a proper catch-up, shared a few laughs, and talked about how things have changed (and in some ways, haven’t changed at all). And here’s the exciting bit — we’re now looking at working in partnership, bringing together our experience and skills to offer even more for customers across London.

28 Years of Doing Things Properly

I started out fitting carpets the old-school way — learning the craft from the ground up. No short cuts, no bodge jobs. Just hard graft, proper technique, and a real respect for the trade.

That foundation has shaped everything I do now with The Carpet Repair Guys.

We’re not a franchise. We’re not a faceless national chain. We’re a team of skilled carpet specialists with decades of experience — and we treat every job like it matters, because it does.

Why Does This Matter?

Because when you book us, you’re not getting someone who watched a few videos and decided to “give carpet repairs a go.” You’re getting a business built on nearly three decades of real experience, with the tools, training and mindset to do things properly.

From Balham to Bexley, Maidstone to Margate, we’re proud of where we’ve come from — and even more excited about where we’re going.

So here’s to full circles, old friends, and new beginnings.
And if your carpet’s in trouble — you know who to call.
